Majuba FET College recently launched their new website in a new, bright and fresh format.°

The launch was in the form of a continental business breakfast with VIP officials from local businesses in Newcastle and surrounding areas. The turn out on the day was remarkable and one of the guests included was the Honourable Madame Mayor, Lungile Dube, who was later willing to lend a hand in the slicing of the exclusive cake. The new website and service is fully operational at www.majuba.edu.za The up-to-date site features easy and secure surfing, at the same time offering all campus related activities, courses available, dates and schedules, a gallery, the latest news, enrolment details, all contact details, printer friendly pages that allows users to print pages, an index of information and lots more on hand.

Dance4Life!

Two of South Africa’s favourite artists, Jamali (pictured) and DJ Tira of Durbans Finest, will be performing at this year’s Dance4Life Event next Saturday, 29 November 2008, before World Aids Day on 1 December.

The biennial event gives youth the platform to unite and celebrate life through dance and the power to teach, advocate change and make a positive contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDs.

Brangelia clan requires six nannies

What does it take to keep the Jolie-Pitt household running smoothly?

A fleet of cars and half-dozen nannies, for starters. "We’ve provided them with more than 20 Volkswagens while they’re here in Berlin," Mya Walters, a public-relations manager for the car company, told Life & Style magazine.

The magazine reports that the Pitt-Jolie Berlin digs also have a dinner table that seats 16 that’s just a couple extra seats when you factor in their own family of eight and the six nannies the couple sometimes requires During their recent trip to New Orleans, the magazine reports that they tried to make do with four nannies, but needed to fly in an additional two to combat the chaos.

Seth

Mellos was filled with an electric atmosphere when Seth, a band from Durban, paid a visit to Newcastle to take part in the monthly musician’s club.

With musical influences such as U2, Creed and Switchfoot, Seth blew Mellos patrons away with their amazing performance. The performance delivered by Seth will surely be remembered by those that attended, for quite some time.

Three die in crash

A taxi driver and two passengers lost their lives on Friday evening, 31 October, after being involved in an accident that left 12 others seriously injured.

The accident which occurred shortly after 7pm, took place on Allen Street, outside Century Casino. According to Capt Shooz, an ambulance had been travelling into town and just after it crossed the robot, outside Century Casino, drove into the back of a bakkie which then overturned. The ambulance then attempted to swerve and collided into the side of a minibus, which had been travelling towards the township. The minibus lost control and hit a robot. The taxi driver and one passenger died on the scene, while one of the victims was rushed to hospital where she later died.

"I was driving along Allen Street when the ambulance overtook me, the next thing I saw was the ambulance hitting the bakkie and the taxi colliding into the robot.

Miss Africa

Over the past week Nerita Bedasie, Miss Africa, has held true to her word by trying to make a difference by travelling to Newcastle and surrounding towns and getting involved with charitable organisations.

Nerita paid a visit to the Dundee Diwali Show, where she was the guest speaker and addressed the audience on Hindu Culture and the spirit of Diwali. On Sunday, 26 October, Nerita paid a visit to The Aryan Benevolent Home in Glencoe, where she handed out sweetmeats to all the residents at the retirement home.

On Monday, 27 October, Nerita paid a visit to Newcastle Provincial Hospital where she handed out food and toy hampers to all the patients.

Let our children play

Lennoxton Primary School and Fernwood Sports Field was filled with a buzz of activity and laughter on Saturday, 18th October, when four local primary schools took part in a series of friendly games. The day was sponsored by the Department of Sport and Recreation, with the aim of letting the youngsters play sport in a friendly spirit. With over 400 children taking part in the day's activities, the youngsters had a ball of a time as they got a chance to interact with each other and tested their soccer and netball skills against each other.

Burst pipe floods yard

A Lennoxton resident received quite a surprise on Monday evening, 20 October, when a water pipe burst and flooded his front yard.

According to the resident, when he looked outside, all he saw was water flowing everywhere.

By the time he phoned Uthukela Water to stop the water, his yard looked like a dam. Uthukela Water managed to stop the water flow and repair the damaged pipe. The driveway was seen to the very next day. Jimmy Singh from uThukela Water, claims that the pipe was rather old and repair to the damages were being taken care of.
