Blood Bank takes to the streets

Newcastle’s Blood bank went out on a blood drive recently to help raise awareness in the community to donate blood this festive season. They also held their special bleeding day at the blood bank the same day, Friday, 5 December.

McDonalds Comes to town

McDonalds has made history in Newcastle when it opened its first branch in our ever-growing town. Members of the public were already queuing up at 6 am on 5 December when owner, Mr Sulaiman Kasoo, opened its doors. It has been busy ever since... The Newcastle Express visited the franchise on this memorable day and caught some snaps.

Made in India!

The count down for the commencement of the Made in India Comedy Festival has begun.

Durbanites and holidaymakers alike are in for an event of side splitting proportions.

Boasting world renowned acts by the likes of Dan Nanian (impersonator of accents, foreign languages and celebrities), Sabrina Jalees (one of the youngest stand up comedians to take the stage),Halal Bilal (a finalist in the Watershed Comedy Festival),Neville Pillay (of East Coast Radio), Eubulus Tracy(of the India Comedy Festival 2007) and Sans Moonsamy (of "Those Indian Guys). Made in India is an exclusive collage of humorous talent. Not only is it a comedy showcase with prospects of international shows in New York City and London it is also a collaboration of international and local talent as never seen before.

The show promises to be a hot-racy experience bound to sizzle on stage. Due to the diverse line up and material "Made in India" is suitable for all patrons regardless of their ethic background.

Celebrating our heritage

The Department Of Arts, Culture and Tourism held a cultural event on Friday, 14 November, at the Fort Amiel Museum.

With South Africa, being a country filled with a diversity of cultures and beliefs, the evening was seen as an ideal opportunity for those attending the function to catch a glimpse of their fellow South Africans beliefs and practices. A variety of ethnic groups, ranging from Hindu to Zulus, took part in the evening’s activities and displayed dances, explanations of their beliefs and different forms of cultural foods for people to tantalize their taste buds with.

Prisoners clean up...

Prisoners made their way to Trim Park on Thursday morning, 27 November, to clean up the litter that lay scattered across the park.

According to Captain Shooz Magudulela, the Newcastle Correctional Services along with the Newcastle SAPS brought the inmates to the park to help them become more involved with society and prepare them for their release dates. Capt Shooz further added that with the 16 Days of Activism underway, prisoners were given a chance to do their part.

Prisoners that took part in the clean up campaign are soon to be released into society, and will hopefully continue with their outlook on life .
