Ninja kids hit Newcastle

Youngsters made their way to the Arbour Park Recreational Centre on Wednesday, 28 March, where they were given the opportunity to learn the ancient art of Ninjitsu.

Sensei Henri Gouws, who has been involved in various forms of martial arts for the past 28 years, has been practising Ninjitsu since 1994 and has decided to share his knowledge of Ninjuitsu to help youngsters defend themselves.

Karate champ excels in tournament

The annual Pieter Vijoen Invitational All Styles Karate Tournament was held in Pretoria on 7 March.

Local instructor, Frik Willemse from the Newcastle Shorin Ryu Butokukan Karate Club, completed in the tournament and earned a 3rd place in both Kumita and kobudo.

Newcastle Organisation for the Aged hosts Bhangra

NOFTA (Newcastle Organisation for the Aged) hosted a Bhangra on Saturday night, 8 March.

The Bhangra which was held at the Show Hall was held to raise funds towards the building of the service centre in Lennoxton.

The night was huge success as people enjoyed a night of music and dancing with a variety of artists performing at the function.

'Rag' for riches

The RAG Day Parade took place on Staruday, 7 February, from the Scott Street Mall to the Newcastle High School grounds in an attempt to raise awareness and funds for the CANSA Association.

Newcastle High School pupils got into full swing for the day's events by building floats and attracting a lot of attention as they made their way through town. Once at the school grounds, people were treated to a variety of activities such as traditional dances, singing, jumping castles, food stalls and many more.

Painting with the flow

'Thinking out of the box' painter JT Coetzee is a newcomer to the painting world, but has a fountain of creative ideas, which JT is set to brain to an individual side of life.

" I started drawing with my dad and since then i can't stop." JT completed his first paint series of 17 paintings, which he calls Talented Unlimited.

" Anything out of the ordinarily, which is beautiful paint, if the creative juices start following, i can easily complete two to three paintings," added JT , at his home during an interview with Tabloid newspapers.
