A president for all South Africans

The ANC will continue to govern the province after winning the Majority of the Kwa-Zulu Natal votes.

Despite missing it's two-thirds majority on a national level, the ANC is totally upbeat with the results of the 2009 elections. President -Elect Jacob Zuma assured the voters that he will be President to all South Africans whether they voted ANC or not.

Murder at the Funfair

The Pakari family are left devastated after the death of their loving father and husband Chris Pakari.

On Saturaday, 11 April, amongst the cheerful crowds at the Funfair, Chris Pakari was allegedly murdered by a 17 year old, after an argument over game of darts. According to witnesses, the accused allegedly put a R2 on the table and began playing a game of darts. The late Clive Pakari, who was stationed at dart game table,the R2 after the 17 year old lost his game.

It is believed that the youth proceeded to get agitated and demanded that he get his R2 back, Clive refused to refund the money and explained that this was his job and could not return the money.

Freedom Day and the forgotten freedom fighters

Freedom Day will always be remembered for the first nonracial elections that took place in 1994, thus ending an era of separation and oppression.

But while names such as Nelson Mandela will go down in history books for their fight against a system that cast people aside due to their skin color and beliefs, what becomes of those who take it in their hands on a daily basis to ensure that we as ordinary citizens enjoy the freedom that the heroes of our past fought so bravely for?

Police officials, nurses, doctors, paramedics, teachers, fire fighters and traffic officials often put their personal lives aside and on the occasion even put their lives in risk to ensure that we enjoy the simple joys of life that we so often take for granted.

Teen faces of Newcastle

The first twelve contestants of the Miss Teen Face of Newcastle met at Century Casino for an evening of fun and fine food.

The contestants used the evening as an opportunity to mingle and get to know each other a bit better. The contestants were treated to entertainment, by 179 group who awed the pageant beauties and other guests with their dance moves and other forms of entertainment.

Sound Competition blows Dundee Residents away

Sound competition was held on Saturday, 4 April, in Dundee. Participants that took part in the competition impressed spectators with their vehicles sound system, giving judges a tough time in deciding who would walk as the the ultimate winners of the day.

Miss Africa visits S.E.Vawda

The beauty queen who originates from Newcastle decided that she would pay S.E.Vawda Primary a visit to show her appreciation to the primary school for starting her education carrier in the right direction.

Mathematic's education moving to a new level at Newcastle High

At a time when the country complains about a poor pass rate in mathematics, Newcastle High School has time and again proven to be a force to be reckoned with in terms of their high quality mathematics pass rates. Last year alone, 110 candidates wrote their first NCS Mathematics examinations with a 99% pass rate, boasting 26 distinctions, the highest number in the Amajuba District.

Due to the high quality of mathematics passes, the school has been selected as one of the 88 Dinaledi schools in KZN. Again, in the rankings of the Dinaledi Schools, Newcastle ranks 7th in terms of pass rates of more than 50%.

After a lengthy application and motivation by the Principal and the Mathematics Department of Newcastle High School it has been given a substantial boost for 2009 with funding to the value of R 441 000 from Optima Trust.

Methodist Church holds fun day

The Newcastle Methodist Church held a fun day at the Newcastle Bowls Club on Friday, 27 March where their bowling skills were put to the rest. Church members had a blast as they took to the greens and many found that they were better than they had originally thought.
