Employees begin festive season in shock

Employees working at Tommy's Auto Parts received a scare on Thursday afternoon, 10 December, when four armed men charged into the busy business and robbed the employees of an undisclosed amount of money. Police immediately rushed to the scene but were unable to apprehend the four suspects. The matter is currently under investigation.

Strange spirits of coal

Strange sightings in the Blaaubosch area raised fearful concerns from the community last week when steam was seen rising from a hole in the ground.

Community members said that they feared evil spirits dwelled within the dark hole and called for traditional healers to assess the area. They also said in recent months there had been an increased in the number of deaths in the area, which they attributed to that strange hole in the ground.

Safety tips during the Festive Season

With the festive season upon us and as a lot of families prepare to travel for holiday getaways and do some Christmas Shopping, the Protection Services have supplied a few safety tips for the community to help reduce the fatalities and injuries that occur on the roads during the holiday season.

Before getting into your vehicle and driving the following should be taken into account:
1. If you are drinking or doing drugs, do not drive. One needs to remember that drunk driving is one of the biggest threats to road safety in South Africa.

Mayhem at the taxi rank

Terminus Street is the main street that leads to the rank and the chaos that erupts is a true test of any motorist's patience.

The problem occurs everyday before 5pm. Taxis and buses line the street bringing traffic to a halt. Vehicles are backed up from one end to the other allowing no other motorists to enter or leave the area.

Accident on N11

An accident involving a truck and a taxi in the early part of Thursday morning last week was a rude awakening for most motorists. The corner of Albert Wessels and the N11 was teaming with police, traffic officials and paramedics. It is alleged that the driver of the taxi accelerated his vehicle in an attempt to pass the junction before the robot changed, causing the truck to slam into the taxi. A total of sixteen passengers were injured, eight with semi serious injuries and the other eight with less serious injuries.

Stolen "contaminated" baby formula recovered

SAP a recently arrested nine people of which 5 were Chinese nationals. These arrests followed the theft of infant formula products which according to the police runs into the millions.

According to the police two security guards and two drivers were arrested on charges of theft of stolen goods from the Nestle South Africa Harrismith Factory. They allegedly sold the stolen property to shops on Illing Road. "What makes this even more criminal, is that the products that were in fact contaminated," said on of the police officers that had made the arrests and the recovery of some of the infant formula.
