United Kingdom tourist escapes death

What was meant to be a sightseeing trip for Colin McDonnell almost turned to tragedy when his motorbike crashed on the R600.

It is believed McDonnell hit a gravel patch on the road and lost control of his motorcycle. According McDonnell's brother, Simon, he had been touring the battlefields when the incident occurred. "My brother was visiting from the United Kingdom and we were sight seeing around the battle fields area.

Green haul : SAPS bust dagga dealers

The Danhauser SAPS recently received a tip off of an individual dealing and cultivating dagga on Allen Farm.

Sboneio Khumalo, 31, was found with 84 pots of dagga plants in the yard, 342 parcels of dagga ready for selling, three plastic bags and a quarter bucket of dagga when the police arrived on the scene on 13 January.

Chinese resident murdered

A 52 year old Chinese man was recently found murdered outside a brick factory, which is situated 10km out of Newcastle on the Volksrus Rd.

It is believed that victim was closing the gates of the brick factory, of which he was one of the shareholders, when he was stabbed in the back of the neck.

Former Newcastle resident is Queen of The Universe

A former Newcastle resident, Neirta Bedasie has scooped the coverted title of the 2009 Queen of the Universe pageant held in South Africa for the 8th year running with contestants from all across the globe taking part in this prestigious competition.

the event was held at the Protea Hotel in Benoni, from 7 to 11 December and was split into various age categories anr open to all entrants, both male and female.

Tragic end to workers lives

Tragedy struck on Wednesday 30 December 2009 at Mittal Steel where it is alleged that five workers who were attending to a furnace suffocated to death as result of an alleged nitrogen gas leak. The fifth man, an African male who was the only survivor is currently in ICU.

It is further alleged that one of the deceased, a white male became disorientated from the gas inhalation and fell a short distance, injuring his head.
