Ingogo orphanage blaze: SAPS suspect arson

Although investigations into the fire that started at the Hope In Christ centre in Ingogo are still underway, it is believed that SAPS have not ruled out arson as the cause of the devastating fire that killed 11 people, including Sarah Holland, who ran the orphanage. According to Media reports, police are searching for a 12th body.

Meanwhile, at Holland's memorial service held at the Richview Civic Hall, mourners gathered to pay their last respects to a woman who has been described as an 'angel'.

Angry protesters make their voices heard

"We are prepared to die for our money..." were the words of an angry protesters as the Madadeni Demaracation Forum took to the streets of Newcastle in protest of the poor service delivery and corruption within the Municipality. Chairperson of the forum Sikhumbuzo Kuluse said over R10 million had been stolen from municipal coffers but to date no arrests have been made.

Lack of jobs, poor roads and infrastructure are just some of the complaints that were highlighted on the placards.

NHS perfect prefect camp

NHS prefects together with the principal and a few teachers visited Babanango Valley Lodge for the weekend as a team building exercise. The group participated in several activities such as raft building, blind leading the build challenges and many more thrilling sporting events.

The weekend was designed to build a stronger working relationships between prefects and to show them the rewards of teamwork.

Rowdy learners disrupt business

A local businesswoman alleges her business is suffering because of the unruly behavior of learners at the nearby school.

The woman, whose identity is known to the Newcastle Express, said several attempts to get the learners to stop loitering and causing disruptions outside her place of business have failed dismally.

Three dead in Memel Road crash

Tragedy recently struck when a three people lost their lives while travelling in a taxi on the Memel Road, 20 km outside of Newcastle.

According to a witness, the accident occurred in the late part of the afternoon after the taxi driver allegedly overtook another vehicle on the barrier line and had to swerve the vehicle to avoid a head on collision with an oncoming truck

New cellphone scam warning

A cell phone scam is allegedly doing the rounds in Newcastle. A resident recently approached the Newcastle Express, explaining that she had received a sms that she had won R95 000 in a Nokia promotion. Upon questioning a local cellphone retailer, the resident found that the sms was a scam.

According to the resident, she was not the only person that received the sms. Allegedly two other people who work with resident have received similar messages.
