Two nabbed in citizens arrest

Police Leading By Example In Respecting Women

The South African Police Services at Ladysmith launched the SAPS Women Network for Cluster 10 at a civic hall last wee. The launch included police stations of Ladysmith, Bergville, Colenso, Van Reenen, Besters, Ekuvukeni, Oliviershoek, Upper Tugela, Elandslaagte, and Ezakheni.

The Women Network is to promote the interests of women on all levels and in all aspects affecting them, which includes crimes perpetrated against women.

The concept of the structure was introduced to personnel from these police stations and a pledge was made that all present would work towards realizing the aims and goals of the Women Network. At the same time the SAPS Men for Change Network's role is to change the perception that some men have that a women is a lesser person than they are and therefore does not have the same rights as men. Policemen are working towards changing these stereotypical perceptions in society and the SAPS. This structure also offers support to men who are victims of Domestic Violence themselves.

The Women Network Champion for Cluster 10, Superintendent Francis Bantham and the SAPS Men for Change Champion for Cluster 10, Superintendent Jabulani Mdletshe showed their commitment to work together in the future to secure the rights of women by participating in a symbolic wedding wherein the two strengthened the ties between the two structures.
