Two nabbed in citizens arrest

Fed up with crime, the local community apprehended two men who robbed a take away worker of more than R10 000.

According to the owner, who did not want to be named, she had sent an employee to the bank to do the morning banking." My employee had just and a few minutes later, I heard screams. She ran back into the shop and told me she had been robbed," she said.

Tragic end to workers lives

Tragedy struck on Wednesday 30 December 2009 at Mittal Steel where it is alleged that five workers who were attending to a furnace suffocated to death as result of an alleged nitrogen gas leak. The fifth man, an African male who was the only survivor is currently in ICU.

It is further alleged that one of the deceased, a white male became disorientated from the gas inhalation and fell a short distance, injuring his head.

Workers go on strike over wages

Workers from North city are pictured here, after they took to the streets the past week and went on strike after they felt that discussions in wage increase and work status were taking to long.

According to one of the strikers, negotiations between the union and the management of North City have been on the go since August last year, without coming to any form of agreement.
